The Covington Police Department said in a press statement that at 7:21 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of West Pike Street in response to reports of a woman being hit by a car.

Officers found an adult woman with several potentially fatal injuries when they arrived on the scene.

The driver of the striking vehicle, according to the police, was still there and actively participating in the inquiry.

Although police stated that they do not think alcohol was a factor in the collision, they are still looking into other aspects of it, such as if speed was a factor.

While investigators processed the scene, West Pike Street was closed in the area. The road reopened Thursday night just before 11 p.m.
