The Dollar General Literacy Foundation awarded a $10,000 grant to the Warsaw Adult Education program to promote adult literacy.
WARSAW Warsaw Adult Education recently received a $10,000 grant to promote adult literacy from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. The money is part of a one-day commitment of over $13.2 million, the largest in the foundation’s history, to support reading programs for adults, families, and children in the 48 states where Dollar General operates.
The director of Warsaw Adult Education, Leo Patio, expressed his immense gratitude to the Dollar General Literacy Foundation for their kind support of our adult literacy initiatives. By giving them the means to develop better literacy skills and more promising prospects, this $10,000 award will have a direct influence on the lives of adult learners in our community. By working together, we are removing obstacles and creating opportunities for significant change.
According to Denine Torr, executive director of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, the organization has been funding literacy and basic education initiatives in our hometown areas for more than 30 years. The award announcement today honors our steadfast dedication to the success of teachers and students. We appreciate each and every grantee’s dedication to improving education and fostering student success.
The Dollar General Literacy Foundation funds initiatives that promote a love of reading, expand access to educational programming, and encourage and facilitate innovation in the way that education is delivered. In order to assist adult, family, summer, and youth literacy programs, DGLF grants money annually to nonprofits, educational institutions, and libraries located within 15 miles of a Dollar General store or distribution facility.
If someone wants to learn how to read, speak English, or be ready for the high school equivalency exam, the Foundation also has a student referral program. You can use the reference cards in the Learn to Read pamphlets that are available at the register of every Dollar General store or you can use the internet to find a local organization that offers free literacy services.
On July 21, the Foundation will also begin its sixth annual campaign, The Yellow Glasses Project, wherein consumers may donate to the DGLF by purchasing yellow sunglasses at Dollar General stores for $2 each.
