Three killed, eight injured in shooting in crowded New York club

In a year when gun violence in the city is at an all-time low, a club shooting in the Brooklyn borough of New York City early Sunday left three people dead and nine others injured.

After a fight shortly before 3:30 a.m., investigators think up to four shooters opened fire at Crown Heights’ Taste of the City Lounge. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch told reporters that the violence seemed to be tied to gangs.

No one was arrested right away. Tisch described the killings as a horrible, pointless act of violence during a news briefing.

In a year when gun violence has generally decreased, this crime marks the second mass shooting in as many weeks in New York City. One person was wounded and four others were killed as a guy with a rifle walked through a Manhattan office tower on July 29. Among those killed was a police officer from New York City.

According to Mayor Eric Adams, these shootings serve as further evidence of the need to remove firearms from our streets.

This is the second time in a few weeks, and we don’t want violence in our city to become the norm,” he stated.

According to Tisch, those hurt on Sunday were receiving non-life-threatening medical care in hospitals. The victims are between the ages of 19 and 61. Two guys, ages 35 and 27, passed away after being taken to a hospital, while a 19-year-old man passed away on the spot.

In a nearby street, investigators discovered a firearm and at least 42 round casings from 9 mm and.45-caliber guns.

In an attempt to prevent any reprisals, Adams said crisis management experts had been called in to offer trauma treatment and support mediation attempts with the victims’ friends and family. He urged anyone with knowledge on the incident to contact the NYPD’s crime stoppers line at 800-577-TIPS in order to assist authorities.

Every bit of information will help us piece the puzzle together, Adams said, whether you were inside the club, overheard people discussing the shooting, or saw someone leaving the scene.

According to Tisch, the first seven months of 2025 have seen the fewest shootings and shooting casualties the city has ever recorded.

“This is definitely an anomaly, thank God, and it’s a horrible thing that happened this morning, but we’re going to look into it and find out what happened,” she said.
