This weekend, the Ohio and Licking Rivers will be closed and a temporary safety zone will be constructed.
The closures will be on the Ohio River (mile marker 469.5 to 470.5) and the Licking River (mile marker 0.0 to 0.3) on Saturday, Aug. 9, from noon to 5 p.m. to
ensure public safety
during the Red Bull Flugtag event.
Delivered to your inbox every weekday morning, these are the stories that everyone in NKY will be talking about.
Before noon, recreational boats are allowed to enter the safety zone to see the event, but they must stay anchored during the closure time. Unless approved by the U.S. Coast Guard on Marine Channel 69 or a vessel enforcing the closure during this time, vessels will not be allowed to proceed within the safety zone.
Unless approved by the Port of Ohio Valley’s captain or a designated representative, commercial vessel traffic is not permitted in the safety zone during this time.
In order to enforce the river closure and offer emergency response assistance if necessary, local and federal first responder agencies will be aggressively patrolling the region during the event.
To guarantee a successful and safe event on the river, boaters and spectators are requested to prepare ahead of time and work with authorities.
