The Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky, or TANK, has introduced a new service called Tap & Save, which enables riders to use an electronic funding account to pay for fares, eliminating the need to purchase day or monthly passes in advance.
TANK is touting it as a way for riders to save money, as riders get free rides after reaching the system’s fare caps.
The stories all of NKY will be talking about, delivered to your inbox each weekday morning.
“We know our riders value flexibility and affordability, and Tap & Save delivers both
,
” said Jenny Kammes, TANK marketing manager, in a press release. “This new program ensures our riders always get the best deal without having to plan ahead or do the math. It’s a simpler, smarter way to pay for transit.”
To use the service, riders load funds into an EZfare account using either the Transit app on their smart devices or an EZfare smart card and then tap to remove funds from the account when boarding a bus. The system automatically tracks users’ usage and charges the lowest possible fare. Fares are capped at $4 per day or $70 per month. After riders reach the cap, all additional rides within the time period are free.
EZfare smart cards are available at the authority’s sales office
on Madison Pike in Fort Wright
.
The Transit app
can be downloaded both on Google Play and the App Store. Paper passes and cash payments to board will still be accepted.
