Stoll led the Newport Central Catholic girls for six seasons from 2012-18, leading the Thoroughbreds to a 112-74 record in his tenure. During his time on The Hill, the Thoroughbreds won a Ninth Region title, one district championship, three All “A” regional titles, three appearances in the All “A” state semifinals, and one appearance in the All “A” state championship game. He was named Greater Cincinnati Coach of the Year following the 2013–14 season. In 2016, Stoll was named the 9th Region Coach of the Year. In 2015 and 2016, he was recognized as NKAC Division II Coach of the Year.
“George Stoll is a tremendous addition to our athletics program,” said NDA Athletic Director Janet Carl in a press release. “His coaching experience, character, and leadership align beautifully with the mission of Notre Dame Academy. We are excited to welcome George and his family into our Panda community.”
Stoll is a Northern Kentucky native and was recently an assistant at Thomas More University on Brian Neal’s staff and coached high school athletes through elite AAU programs including Kentucky Fusion and Kentucky Premier. He is the co-founder of Next Play Academy, which focuses on mental toughness, leadership, and life skills for student-athletes.
“Notre Dame Academy has a tradition of excellence in girls basketball,” Stoll said in the release. “I’m honored to have the opportunity to build on that success and to help our student-athletes grow both on and off the court. I believe in preparing players not just for competition, but for life.”
Stoll inherits a Pandas team expected to contend for a Ninth Region title next season. The Pandas are coming off a 22-8 season with a 35th District championship and Ninth Region runner-up finish. They graduated five seniors, but with their depth they had, will be considered one of the top teams in the region with the expected returns of Emma Holtzapfel and Amelia Stallard, two of the top three leading scorers from last season. Joslyn LaBordeaux-Humphrey, Addie Lawrie, Sarah Young, Riley Eberhard and Erin McGraw all potentially return off significant playing time from last season.
