Memorial Park to swap out playground surface materials

The playground surface safety material at Memorial Park in Independence is being swapped out,

according to a social media announcement from the city

.

Memorial Park’s playgrounds are undergoing renovations! It says in the announcement. A new poured-in-place play surface is being installed in place of the crumb rubber mulch.

The Commonwealth of Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet Department of Environmental Protection awarded a grant for the renovation, which got underway Wednesday, with the goal of making the park more accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds.

At roughly 26 acres, Memorial Park is the biggest park in Independence. The city building is behind it.
