Ludlow has formally joined the Read Ready Initiative, an educational program that includes three other neighboring cities: Covington, Newport, and Dayton.
The Ludlow City Council voted to join the initiative at its meeting on Thursday evening.
Delivered to your inbox every weekday morning, these are the stories that everyone in NKY will be talking about.
Jenny Watson, vice president of early learning and family power at EducateNKY, a consulting firm that is assisting in the program’s expansion, said Ludlow’s dedication to its youngest people exemplifies what it takes to bring about long-lasting change. Ludlow is investing in the future of the entire community, not just in early education.
The program’s goal is to provide more tools to assist children up to age five in becoming ready for kindergarten. It began as a literacy project in Covington with the goal of tracking students’ development outside of the classroom.
Read Ready first became a citywide priority
in Covington
, where schools, city leaders, and community partners helped boost kindergarten readiness in recent years. Inspired by Covington s example, the
city of Newport
is launching its own version with support from EducateNKY, a regional nonprofit focused on improving educational outcomes from prenatal through high school.
