Cincinnati A venerable mainstay of Cincinnati’s craft beer scene has declared its final closure.
The Evanston-based Listermann Brewing Company, situated on Dana Avenue, declared on social media Friday that it would shut down on Saturday, August 16. On Saturdays, the brewery is open from midday till ten o’clock.
“We are deeply grateful to our amazing staff, loyal customers and community who have supported us over the years,” the message adds. “You’ve been part of our story, and it’s been an honor to share our beer and our space with you.”
The reason for Listermann’s sudden closure was not explained in the post.
Despite producing the Listermann namesake beer since 2008, the Cincinnati-based company has been around for a lot longer. In 1991, Listermann Brewing Company began producing equipment for homebrewing, and in 1994, it expanded into a full-fledged homebrew business.
Dan Listermann, the company’s founder, experimented with beer brewing for years before making his first attempt at homebrewing in 1973 while attending Miami University in Oxford. He claimed that it took him another fifteen years to try making his own beer. After graduating, Listermann resumed homebrewing in 1988 before launching his manufacturing company in 1991. In 1995, Listermann and his spouse, Sue, went on to buy the Evanston building where the brewery has been located for many years.
About two years after Dan and Sue Listermann left the brewery to retire, the news of Listermann’s closing was released. In 2023, they turned the business over to Steve and Terrie Ipson. The Ipsons hosted a grand opening for the taproom’s new kitchen in 2024, which included the taproom’s draft menu items and provided a range of culinary options.
Listermann Brewing Company has been contacted by WCPO 9 to provide more details regarding the closure.
