Campbell County Library’s Spotlight Series dives into local history

This week marks the return of the Campbell County Public Library’s Spotlight Series.

Three speakers will be featured by the library to showcase local and regional history in various ways. The guest presenters will offer resources that illuminate the history of the town through discussions on historical societies, trains, and a notorious serial murderer.


Aug. 7: Benefactors of Posterity with Daniel Gifford

Discover NKY’s activities as well as our most recent reporting on the arts and culture.

Daniel Gifford is giving a talk about his book, Benefactors of Posterity: The Filson Historical Society’s Founding Era, 1884-1899. He will examine the Filson Historical Society of Kentucky’s past, including its successes and failures.

Aug. 14: Bob Hamilton and the History of Trains in Kentucky

Bob Hamilton’s presentation on the history of trains in Kentucky is moving on at full speed. From the La Grange Railroad Museum, he is joining. He will show museum items and video recordings throughout his talk.

August 21: The Cincinnati Strangler’s Unknown Legend

Returning to the library, J.T. Townsend offers yet another unsettling glimpse into Cincinnati’s past. Examining the shadowy side of history is nothing new to him, and this time he’s talking about the Cincinnati Strangler of 1966. His talk will provide a deeper look at this little-known period in Cincinnati’s history.
