In honor of Williamson, who will celebrate her 101st birthday on July 26, 2025, Bellevue Mayor Charlie Cleves proclaimed July 9 to be Mary Jane Williamson Day.

Williamson was unable to attend, although family said she would be home watching. Many members of her family were on hand to accept the honor for her and to share a happy birthday message with council and community members.

Williamson grew up in Cincinnati, where she was born. She actually survived the city’s 1937 flood and was saved by boat. She went to high school at Woodward. She married Louis after graduating; he was a sergeant in the US Army during World War II. In 1955, she and her spouse relocated to Bellevue.

Gloria, born in 1944, and Victoria, born in 1946, were the couple’s two daughters, whom they reared in Bellevue. Until her retirement after 23 years of service, Williamson worked full-time at Kenner’s while her girls were in school. She has stayed in Bellevue since her spouse died at the age of 62.

She has eight grandkids, eleven great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren in addition to her two daughters.

According to Cleves, who read the proclamation, Mary has lived a long life, having experienced the Great Depression, the rise of Hoovervilles, World War II, the Korean War, the Cold War, the Civil Rights Movement, the Women’s Rights Movement, the New Deal, the Space Race, the first man on the moon, and the first technological advancements. At 101 years old, Mary still treasures the Vet’s Carnival and loves fishing at her family farm. What’s the key to her longevity? Stay in the present and consider the future instead of looking back.
