Fort Wright, Kentucky. What is that massive building that is being built in Fort Wright near Madison Pike, Dudley Road, and I-275?
The purpose of this 10.5 million-gallon equalization tank is to catch surplus water runoff during severe weather conditions.
The project is a component of the Clean H2O40 program of Sanitation District 1, which seeks to eliminate capacity-related sewer overflows in its service area by 2040. According to SD1, this $30 million project will be the largest of its kind once it is finished, even if tanks like this one aren’t very unique in and of themselves.
WATCH: We discuss the project with Sanitation District 1 and local residents.
An adjacent pumping station will be connected to the tank. According to SD1, once the facility is up and running, it will stop roughly 4.25 million gallons of sanitary sewer overflows annually.
Crews have started excavating for the pump station, and the tank’s bottom is almost finished. More information on the project is available on SD1’s information page. The Clean H2040 project is available at sd1.org.
