Highland Heights could see a potential occupational license fee raise

Highland Heights

heard the first reading of an ordinance Tuesday night that would raise the occupational license fee, a tax on wages paid by anyone working within the city limits, from 1.0% to 1.5%.

Delivered to your inbox every weekday morning, these are the stories that everyone in NKY will be talking about.

Michael Giffen, the city administrator, clarified how the salary may support the city’s future growth.

According to Giffen, the city will be able to implement a number of initiatives that have been identified over the past few years and through the most recent comprehensive plan update thanks to the additional revenue. The Commons at Highland Heights is a massive park project that is currently in its first phase. Three more stages are planned and require funding. Additionally, this shift will enable us to pursue larger grant projects, such realigning Sunset Drive and paying for new sidewalks on North US-27.

Greg Meyers, the mayor of Highland Heights, says the possible rise keeps the city a pleasant place to live.

The rise would take effect on January 1, 2026, if it passes.
