Ryle flexes its depth at Highlands Invitational

After a strong start at the Blue Bird Invitational to open their 2025 KHSAA golf season, Ryle continued with their blazing start as they took home first in the Highlands Invitational on Wednesday at the Courses of Kenton County Pioneer Course.

The Raiders fired a 279 to defeat the field of 22 teams. Oldham County was second with a 286 and Highlands placed third with a 304.

Ryle’s depth continued to show its muscle as No. 5 man Chandler James won the tournament with a six-under 66. James was one of three players in the 60’s on the day in the 113-man field. Dixie Heights’ Jack Woolwine was second with a 67, Oldham County’s Miles Green third with a 69.

The Raiders were followed by Thomas Leone with a 70 and finished tied for fourth individually, Paxton McKelvey a 71 and in a tie for fifth, Hayden Li a 72 and a top 10 finish and Jake Roscoe a 78. Ryle finished second on Tuesday in their season opener in Lexington at the Blue Bird Invitational on the Big Blue Course at University Club of Kentucky.

Other strong NKY individual performances include Villa Madonna’s Tyler Brandstetter and Newport Central Catholic’s Evan Himmelsbach with 70s and recording top five finishes.

Highlands’ 304 was paced by Alex Race with a 71 and finishing in a tie for seventh as eight players finished under par on the day.

Newport Central Catholic placed fifth with a 310. Dixie Heights finished sixth with a 313 and Covington Catholic seventh, carding a 315 as a team. St. Henry placed ninth with a 319 and Conner rounding out the top 10 with a 325.
