On Tuesday, June 17, Ken and Sina Locke celebrate their retirement party after years of service with the Salvation Army.
WARSAW On Tuesday, June 27, friends, family, and the community came together to honor Ken and Sina Locke for their years of Salvation Army service.
Visitors continuously arrived and left the celebration, which took place at the Zimmer-Biomet Center Lake Pavilion in Warsaw from 3 to 6 p.m., demonstrating the Lockes’ appreciation of relationships.
People wanted to tell how the Lockes had a beneficial impact on everyone around them, whether they were Salvation Army employees, members of the local Warsaw Salvation Army church, or recipients of the Salvation Army ministry.
According to their son Josh Saylor, Ken’s overall contributions to the community over the past 35 years have been quite remarkable. Alexa Collins, his daughter, concurred: He has had a significant influence on the community. Saylor added that she has also benefited from Sina Locke’s involvement with the Salvation Army.
The pair was congratulated by some of Ken Locke’s sessionmates from the Salvation Army Training College. Vicki Steinsland, a Salvation Army major, stated, “We are happy to be here (for) Ken and Sina and celebrate a milestone in their life. It is not the end of their service; they will remain active, but it will change.”
According to Teresa (Locke) Tolley, Sina and Ken have performed admirably.
Tara Conn arrived for the celebration with anecdotes about Locke’s compassion and support. “When no one else in my life would help me, Ken has always found a way to help me,” she stated.
The Salvation Army of Indiana’s senior donor relations director, Rob Stiles, also had nothing but praise for the Lockes. Working with (Ken) was an honor. Sina is amazing. He claimed that they are both incredibly loving individuals.
Wave after wave of people poured in to offer the Lockes hugs and best wishes, and they left cards and gifts for the pair as well as cake and other refreshments.
As members of the Salvation Army, the Lockes faithfully served the community. On Friday, June 27, they will formally retire together.
After working as a camp lifeguard for the Salvation Army in 1975, Ken Hawkeye Locke joined the US Army and served from 1975 to 1979. After receiving an honorable discharge, Locke worked with the Salvation Army from 1977 to 1979 as a women’s shelter helper. After graduating from the Chicago-based Salvation Army School for Officers Training in 1981, he served all around the nation before arriving in Warsaw. In 1990, Locke graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Science in business. From 1997 until 2019, he was the Director of Community Ministries for the Salvation Army. From 2019 to 2025, he was the Salvation Army Corps Administrator, also known as the Envoy.
Jensiina Sina Locke, who graduated from Grace College in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in counseling, volunteered in the Salvation Army in Warsaw from 1997 to 2019. In 2019, she was promoted to senior soldier in the Salvation Army, and in 2021, she received a credential from the SFOT for distance learning. From 2019 to 2025, Locke was the Administrator (or Envoy) of the Salvation Army Corps.
Regarding their future plans, the Lockes stated, “We want to” take a short break before going on a few excursions. They intend to keep investing in their connections with those around them and contributing in the community through the Salvation Army.
It’s about relationships, yet I could go on and on about stories. We don’t think that will change. According to the Lockes, “for us, ministry is being connected to people, even in retirement.”
