HYRACUSE At its meeting on Tuesday, June 17, Syracuse Redevelopment talked about solar lights and new miles per hour sings.
First, Town Manager Dave Wilkinson suggested replacing the electric speed-activated miles per hour sign on SR 13 close to the intersection of Huntington Street and Pickwick Road.
“We’ve fixed it as best we can,” he stated.
The tax increment revenues needed to replace it would total $3,878.48. In addition, he requested two more placards to be placed in different locations.
The Pickwick and Huntington area had historically been a high accident rate, but since the speed sign was put in place, police have witnessed less incidents, according to Police Chief Jim Layne, who highlighted the benefits of the signage.
He claimed that it is a powerful disincentive to speeders.
At a maximum cost of $11,635.44, the commission authorized the acquisition of three new signs.
Regarding the Syracuse Tech Park’s inefficient solar lights, the commission had to decide whether to hardwire electric lights or order new, more efficient ones.
According to Public Works Director Mark Aurich, hardwiring lamp bids ranged from $50,000 to $58,000. Between $3,000 to $14,000 was the range of quotes for new solar lights.
Since they would be the less expensive choice, Nate Scherer suggested that Aurich get in touch with Littman Bros. in Chicago to inquire about testing a solar light before making a purchase.
The commission decided to put the matter on hold for one more month.
The information summary from the annual annuity meeting was also on the commission’s agenda. The annual meeting’s goals are to inform all impacted tax entities about the usage of TIF funds and to provide them a chance to ask any questions or express any concerns. There were no tax entity representatives at the meeting.
The next meeting of Syracuse Redevelopment is scheduled for Tuesday, July 15 at 6:30 p.m.
