Ezekiel Dewayne Fitzpatrick
WARSAW — A Warsaw man was arrested for allegedly stabbing a person.
Ezekiel Dewayne Fitzpatrick, 30, 316 S. Lake St., Warsaw, is charged with battery resulting in serious bodily injury, a level 5 felony; and criminal recklessness committed with a deadly weapon and possession of methamphetamine, both level 6 felonies.
On May 25, law enforcement responded to a stabbing report at a Warsaw residence. Officers learned Fitzpatrick, the suspect, stabbed a man, who was taken to a hospital in Fort Wayne.
According to court documents, a woman in the home said she was sleeping when both Fitzpatrick and the man began screaming for someone to call 911. When the woman woke up, she saw blood on the man’s neck and held pressure on his wound. The man said Fitzpatrick did not recognize him and battered him.
A second woman at the residence said the man hung out with Fitzpatrick the previous day. She also told police the man said Fitzpatrick thought he was an intruder.
In an interview with a detective, Fitzpatrick said he freaked out because he thought someone was in the closet, under the bed, or right behind one of the women. When Fitzpatrick looked around, he saw the man collapse and noticed blood.
Fitzpatrick allegedly told police he did not know how the man was injured and that a “switch knife” he possessed earlier in the day was gone. He also said the man had not tried to attack him.
Officers found a black knife with multiple red-tinted areas in the room where the stabbing occurred. A pair of Fitzpatrick’s jeans that contained several small bags of meth was also located.
The victim said he was sitting at a table when Fitzpatrick stabbed his neck and left pectoral area six times. He also said Fitzpatrick told him he thought he was an intruder.
Fitzpatrick has prior convictions for marijuana possession, meth possession, auto theft, battery, and resisting law enforcement.
Fitzpatrick was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on May 25. He has a pretrial conference at 9 a.m. Monday, June 30, in Kosciusko Superior Court Three.
